The everyday Assam. Hearty and malty without sacrificing brightness or clarity. It’s simple, no-nonsense, and delivers a great tea for the buck. It comes from our friends at the Chota Tingrai estate in the Tinsukia district of Assam, India.

This tea is made in the “CTC” style, which stands for “Crush-Tear-Curl,” a common manufacturing process that does exactly what it says. The outcome is a spherically shaped tea that steeps up strong, direct, and affordable.

This is our first choice to use as a base for TeaSource Chai.

Steep 3 grams of tea in 10–12 oz of 212°F (100°C) water for 3 minutes.

I've been searching for a tea like this for a long time: lovely malty flavor that blossoms beautifully with a bit of milk, full mouthfeel -- the perfect cup (or cups!) in the morning.

I absolutely love this tea. Every morning I brew a cup — sometimes two 😃 — of Assam Breakfast, and it has become a small ritual I cherish. When I was a child, my mom would make me a cup of black tea in the morning. The aroma alone brings me back to those quiet, caring moments. This tea is delicious, but even more than that, it lets me begin each day wrapped in a warm reminder of my mom’s love.

This breakfast tea is a good tea to wake up with. It has the Assam or Asom, as it is now called, maltiness. A great everyday tea. That said I prefer the full leaf teas as I feel the CTC process crushes some of the delicate flavors. I am also disappointed to see the loss of selection in the various teas that Tea Source used to have.
