This “Tai Ping Hou Kui” style tea is famous for its visual presentation alone. The gentle mouthfeel of light, yet savory soup stock brings elements of dried flowers, minerals, and melon rind. Minimalist, refined, and forgiving in the steep.
Harvested and produced April 18, 2026 at Tang Kou Village, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. It’s a one bud, two leaf pick of the local Shi Da Shu cultivar growing at 1,900 feet. Taiping Hou Kui is one of China’s most famous teas. It’s dried in a flat mesh to produce its iconic look. Like most other Anhui green teas, it has an inherently soft character and lacks the astringency of other green teas.

My new favorite (Chinese green) tea! Unbelievably delicious. Light but packed with flavor. I get melon, floral, other flavors I wish I could name, but I'll just call it a sublime cup. I thought Fibonacci Spiral was my favorite, but this will vie with that one for the top spot. Since the leaves are tall, I brewed mine in a mason jar and put my gaiwan lid on top, but a narrower glass that can withstand high temperatures would be, like this tea, ideal. Wow! I need to stock up.
First time I bought this, my experience echoed all the reviews here. Beautiful color, striking flavor. After a few months, I bought it again in 4 oz bag. This time, with exact same steeping conditions (following recommended temp and time on package), I have something that tastes like cardboard. So I’d say 5/5 for first batch and 1/5 for this one.
P.S. I just watched a video about drinking Hou Kui “Grandpa style” so am sipping this right out of my heat-proof glass, not draining it, and topping up with 85 C degree water as I go. I’m breathing in the aroma from the glass with each sip. Great way to experience a wonderful tea.

Received this as a sample in a recent order. This is the absolute best green tea! Mildly sweet, subtle, not too earthy. It's perfect. I brewed it for 3 min at 175F. I've found my new favorite green tea.
I thought this tea was an excellent experience. I brewed it "Grandpa style" in a tall glass, recommended for the long leaves. And adjusting the temperature to not boil the leaf, you get to experience many subtle tastes, from nutty to slight sweetness. I have to say that I agree with other reviews of this style of tea, very good!
