This sencha from the Kiyoka cultivar was produced in April 2026 by Akira Chikamori at the Sata Seicha Tea Farm in Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Kiyoka (which means “pure fragrance”) is a new cultivar officially registered in 2020 that offers rich flavors, clean, floral aromatics, and minimal astringency. A truly outstanding tea.

This is a very nice Sencha. The dry leaves have a very prominent asparagus aroma. The liquor is a cloudy dry yellow lentil color. There are vegetal notes of freshly snapped green twigs, raw yellow squash and a hint of chicken broth. There is a tad of astringency but brewed at 160F it is not noticeable. My preferred brewing parameters are 8 g of leaf to 200 ml of water at 170 F.
