This light-bodied cup is as placid as pure water. A stoic sweetness lacks syrup and offers no astringency. The long exhaling floral finish reveals the wisdom of old stories.

Harvested and produced April 15, 2024 by Mr. Huang Bang Ming in Chixi Village, Ningde City, Fujian Province. It’s a one bud, two leaf pick of the Jin Mu Dan cultivar growing at approximately 1,600 feet.

Western Steeping Method

Steep 4 grams of tea in 10–12 oz of 212°F (100°C) water for 4 minutes.

I don't usually bother with reviews but I've loved this tea enough that I had to comment. One of my favorite teas used to be TeaSource's keemun, and while I have a hard time describing exactly what the flavor I found so appealing there is, I find this tea pushes just a little bit further in that direction in a really delightful way. I have trouble with fruit flavored teas (I can do a little bit of an Earl Grey and then I'm done), and I find I love Wandering Monk for suggesting just a hint (only the smallest hint!) of fruit without actually being a flavored tea.

Wandering Monk | Black Tea

Lovely! It has a smooth, thick mouthfeel with a vegetal finish on the early steeps that opens up into sweet floral notes as you continue to brew. Its punchy, yet delicate at the same time and just great tea all around.

This is some of the most delightfully delicious tea I've ever had. It is beautifully fragrant and mellow, with no astringency or bitterness. I can get two really good steeps out of it, but the first is always the best. One of my all time favorites. Recommended.

Wandering Monk | Black Tea

I received a small sample of this tea and instantly fell in love with it. It has a beautiful floral finish - elegant and aromatic, reminiscent of Hunan Peony tea I adored (sadly it is no longer available). The floral notes are subtle yet expressive, engaging both palate and the nose, and they leave me wanting more with every sip. I brewed my first cut at a campsite using a stainless steel tea ball infuser and accidentally left it steeping too long, but it didn’t turn bitter. Normally, tea brewed at camp doesn’t turn out well, but even under less than ideal conditions, this tea truly stood out. I generally enjoy Keemun and other Chinese black teas. If you’re a fan of teas with naturally floral flavor profiles, I think you’ll really appreciate this one.

Wandering Monk | Black Tea

Forgiving to brew, doesn’t easily go bitter. Great all purpose black tea. Large leaves are easy to strain with out tea brewing equipment. I tend to use more tea and less water to make a more concentrated brew. At that concentration I sometimes add touch of sweetner. Recommended brew instruction strength is perfectly balanced.

The description of "floral without perfume" is very accurate. It's a very fragrant, nose/mouth-filling tea, but it's not perfumy. Very round and smooth. A bit difficult to describe. And of course VERY different from smoked lapsang souchongs, not smoky at all. Great tea (writing this review as I order another pound of it).
