Toothless Tiger Chai is a rooibos-based blend. Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) is cultivated in the Republic of South Africa and is naturally caffeine-free. It can be used in blends like this or prepared as a standalone herbal beverage.

Steeping Instructions

Western Steeping Method

Steep 3 grams of tea in 10–12 oz of 212°F (100°C) water for 5 minutes.

I stop drinking caffeine after noon but still love a cozy cup of chai with a splash of milk in the evening. This lovely blend tastes just like its caffeinated counterpart and means I can still indulge in a nighttime cup of chai without sacrificing a good night’s sleep!

Toothless Tiger Chai | Herbal Tea

Have been tracking Rooibos for years. Found this tea last winter. I find it has what satisfies my brain function. (2) TBSP per pint. Add (1) TBSP Yerba Mate' on, to top out infuser. Add hot/hot water from your favorite teapot. Steep until drinking temperature hot. I use a heavy, ceramic mug filled and set on an electric burner on low, let steep for twenty minutes. I cannot adequately describe the freedom of thought, the bottomless energy, the powers of association. Kind, thoughtful, industrious. If you work (I an retired) you will impress your allies and detractors both. Then, its time to share as I would if I could.

I was very hesitant at first because of the strong smell and discovered that the taste is actually very good! The recommended amount for a cup tasted a bit watered down (I love strong teas) so just adjust the amount to your liking and taste!

I have loved this tea for several years. A good, simple chai is very comforting and the caffeine free option has been nice. I was disappointed to find the new recipe contained no discernible cardamom (a staple of most chai recipes) and negligible ginger. I don’t think I will purchase again in this formulation and would not recommend if a traditional chai is your cup of tea.
