Intensely fruity/floral with little of the woody/spiced roasted character typical of the style. There is a bit of a bite accompanying the nectar-like sweetness, which I suspect is what leads to the grapefruit comparison. Brewing it with slightly cooler water (185-190) tempers this bite and does little to mute the rest of the profile. I have found the second steeping is equally enjoyable.

This “green” Dan Cong has the penetrating aromatics of cedar and barely ripe grapefruit. The body is light, but the mouthfeel has a divine potency that will reward skilled hands. Its tenacious character is well suited for many steepings.
Harvested and produced October 20, 2024 and roasted April 2, 2025 by Mr. Cai Man Fen in Guihu Town, Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province. It’s a one bud, three leaf pick of the Da Wu Ye cultivar growing at 2,200 feet.
