A feathery cup of unpolished chocolate. Light, but not lean, with a keen floral quality.
Produced May of 2023 in Changshun County of Guizhou Province, China. It’s a one bud, two leaf pick from the Jin Xuan cultivar growing at approximately 3,500 feet. Jin Xuan is a famous Taiwanese cultivar typically used for making oolong tea. Jin Xuan translates “Golden Daylily.” It is not frequently made into black tea.

4 grams | 10-12 oz water | 212°F | Steep 4 min.
Traditional Steeping - Use 6 grams of tea in a 150ml gaiwan and steep with boiling water:

The first thing that I noticed was a silky smooth mouth feel, that ended with a cool, slightly dry mouth sensation that comes from a bold black tea. This tea is very pleasant, and rich, as the bio describes unpolished chocolate, this tea is reminiscent of a cacao powder, earthy and a bit nutty. Definitely a tea I enjoyed, nothing life changing, but still a very nice cup to sit down and enjoy!
This was so delicious! The flavor of the black tea was incredible. It was rich and smooth with subtle chocolate and floral notes. I really enjoyed this one!
This is a tea that if you treat it delicately, it will blossom a very nice flavor. You could add cream and sugar and have a pretty standard morning tea for a greatly affordable price! I brewed traditional English style instead of Gong Fu. Tasting Notes: Scent - reminds me of a yunnan black. There are sweeter notes, cane sugar with an oaky undertone Color - orange amber Taste - no intial astringency although brisk like an assam, heavy body, sweet floral notes like a rose with undertones of sugar cane and cocoa. Nose is lingering, floral, and pleasant. Notes - brewed it English style, 2 minutes at a lower temperature appx 190F bc it's an oolong cultivar, thought it might need less heat to bring forth more delicate notes, and I was right! If you brewed longer or hotter I'm positive you would discover the bite of a black tea - could be dry, astringent, maybe even bitter.
One of my favorites from TeaSource (though admittedly I usually choose among the cheaper selections). Perfect for a gray morning. Steeps well multiple times.
