This perfect daily companion. Steep as long as you wish without any bitterness. The full-bodied cup, earthy aromatics, and barnyard character will make you feel right at home.

Harvested and produced May 4, 2025 by Mr. Liu Zhao Quan in Da Ping Zhang Village, Puer City, Yunnan Province. Post fermentation production was completed July 10, 2025. It’s a one bud, two leaf pick of the Yunnan Big Leaf cultivar growing at 4,900 feet.

All ripe puer comes from the Xishuangbanna region of southern Yunnan Province, China. It starts out as raw puer (simple green tea), but then goes through a final step of “pile fermentation” where they pile it up, apply moisture, and cover it for a period of time to achieve microbiological change. The result is intensely earthy and smooth.

3 grams | 10-12 oz water | 212°F | Steep 2 min.

Traditional Steeping

Use 6 grams of tea in 150ml gaiwan using boiling water:

  • Rinse - 10 seconds (discard this steep)
  • 1st Steep – 20 seconds
  • 2nd Steep – 15 seconds
  • 3rd Steep – 45 seconds
  • 4th Steep – 2 min 15 seconds
  • 5th Steep – 5 min 30 seconds

Traditional Steeping Method

Steep 6 grams of tea in a 150 ml gaiwan or teapot with 212°F (100°C) water for the following times.

Rinse: 10 seconds – discard (optional)
1st steep: 20 seconds
2nd steep: 15 seconds
3rd steep: 45 seconds
4th steep: 2 minutes, 15 seconds
5th steep: 5 minutes, 15 seconds

Down to Earth was one of the first two teas I tried from TeaSource back in 2024, so when I saw there was more in stock, I had to get more. Very good. Very nostalgic. Feels like a safe place.

Down to Earth | Ripe (Shu) Puer Tea

I love Down to Earth! It’s my morning beverage, not too heavy, not too light. Stands up to cream/oat milk. I don’t follow the directions at all and instead use a couple tablespoons with 12-16 oz of water. Steeping for three minutes allows a nice second steep. My only issue is that it’s out of stock—when is it coming back??

Down to Earth | Ripe (Shu) Puer Tea

Being a novice, I’ve had trouble finding enjoyment in Puer teas. Due to something I read, I tried convincing myself that it’s ok if other Puer teas taste like dried fish and that I should be ok with that. This does not! It is very well described as above but also has a good whiff of quality leather shop that’s quite pleasant. It’s easy going smooth and forgiving as puer goes.
