Ceylon Mortar & Pestle 1st Flush | Black Tea
Available in 2 oz. quantities only.
Processed by hand using mortar and pestle, this is a raw and primal tea that is blunt in its delivery. It has a fresh and gripping mouthfeel with a bright, herbaceous character that is grounded with a familiar and full-bodied satisfaction. The long finish sweetens up nicely and reminds one of barely ripe bananas.
Produced July 3, 2025 by the R&D team at Lumbini Tea Valley. The picking standard for this tea is one bud and up to four leaves of first flush material from the TRI2026 cultivar growing in their biodynamic experimental tea garden. It is harvested from plants that have been pruned back and allowed to rest for five months, allowing them to store nutrition that makes for a vital and vibrant energy in the cup. Instead of traditional rolling, the leaves are ground in a mortar and pestle to stimulate oxidation.
