Sencha #20 | Green Tea
Available online only.
The daily drinker traditional sencha – brussels sprouts aroma, full-bodied, and pleasantly grassy. It’s flexible, so steep it strong and soupy with a little bite or steep it lighter for a softer cup without giving up the good stuff.
Sencha #20 is a “fukamushicha” (deep steamed sencha) from Shizuoka prefecture by our friends at Otsuka Green Tea Co. It’s a 2021 lot made from the Yabukita cultivar. Fukamushicha is steamed from 45-60 seconds, which is up to twice as long as the lightly steamed sencha. The longer steaming causes the leaf to become brittle and break apart when mixed by hand, an intended result. It gives a much stronger cup character and a popular style within Japan.
