A TeaSource Exclusive!

Light in body, boundless in grace. Tangy effervescent aroma, but earthy sweet instead of citrus. Cup character of charred peaches with an olfactory presence that outlasts the liquor.

Harvested on April 3, 2022. The material comes from from the tea fields of Mr. Lin Rui Fu in Anxi County, Fujian. A 1 bud, 3 leaf pick from the Huang Jin Gui cultivar growing at 2,400 feet. This years lot was twice roasted – first on May 15, 2022 and again on August 10, 2022. This unusual step for black tea was taken because of the persistent rain in the spring during harvest time. The original production was very light, but the twice roasting revived both the body and the aroma, making reminiscent of our original 2020 lot - not a heavy tea, but a forgiving steeper possessing the high-level aromatics that Huang Jin Gui is known for. Tea making is just as much (if not more) about adjusting to overcome difficulties as it about following a procedure.

The idea for Red Dawn came from our friend Daniel Hong in 2020 during Covid lockdown and is now a continuous experiment we plan to purchase in years to come. This is a TeaSource exclusive tea you won’t find anywhere else. You can read more about the 2022 lot of Red Dawn and the concept in general here. Our 2021 lot is still available and offers an excellent contrast of seasonal variations. A very different tea. Collect them both.

All 4 oz. packages of 2022 Red Dawn have custom packaging featuring the "Red Dawn" artwork by YoYo!
