The 2019 Simao Peacock Shu Puer Tea Cake was made by Mr. Liu Zhao Qian. He is the head tea producer for Logan Tea, which is an old tea factory in Puer city of the Yunnan province of China. Puer city was formally known as Simao (one of the four puer tea producing regions) and the factory dates back prior to the communist revolution. Shu puer is sheng (or raw) puer that goes through a final “post fermentation”, which is the process of deliberate, rapid change rather than letting it age naturally. They make this tea in 30-ton batches to give it the right “ecosystem” for this fermentation.
