Otsuka Saemidori | Green Tea
Savory aromatics of homemade broth. Clean, clear yellow-green liquor gives a light, satin-like texture. Sweet, fresh vegetal character balanced with a slight bitterness similar to radishes/turnips. Great tea for the buck!
“Sae” = bright, “midori” = green. Saemidori was officially recognized in 1991 and is a combination of the Asatsuyu and Yabukita cultivars. This 2021 lot was made by our friends at the Otsuka Green Tea Co. and comes from Miyazaki region. It’s a “nakamushicha” (medium-steamed sencha) to give it more brothy depth than lightly steamed sencha, but not steamed too much so the leaves are left intact and therefore a lighter mouthfeel, unlike fukamushicha (deep steamed sencha).
