Organic Kumaon Black Tea | Black Tea
This is a unique TGFOP black tea from the Champawat Estate in northern India. It is full-bodied with a great aroma and very complex flavor profile. It's smooth with soft, sweet, fruity notes coming through, a tiny bit of earthiness, and a lingering aftertaste. Almost as if you crossed a Nilgiri black tea with a Darjeeling black tea and a Keemun black tea.
The Champawat Estate has been owned and operated by the Birkbeck family for generations, and they are leading an effort to revitalize the tea industry in the Kumaon region. They are not just focused on the quality of their tea, but on the impact their operation has on the world around them; for instance they are certified USDA Organic and Kumaon tea farmers make 5-8 more than the average India tea farmer.
The Kumaon region in northern India may be the very first place British planters cultivated tea plants. But it never developed commercially because it is so remote. Kumaon is located approximately halfway between Darjeeling and the northern most tip of India.
